Common questions

How does Sift estimate nutrition?

Heuristic models based on dish names, descriptions, and known food data. Chain restaurants with published nutrition use that data when available. All estimates are approximate.

Can I trust the allergen flags?

They're educated guesses based on likely ingredients. They can miss real allergens or flag ones that aren't there. Sift can't detect cross-contamination or hidden ingredients. Always confirm with the restaurant if you have a serious allergy.

Why did the scan miss items on my menu?

OCR depends on image quality. Poor lighting, glare, unusual fonts, or handwriting cause misses. Try a clearer photo with even lighting and the menu flat on a surface.

Does Sift store my data or need an account?

No account needed. Everything is stored locally on your device. Menu images never leave your phone — only extracted text may be sent for analysis if on-device processing is unavailable.

How do I delete my data?

Uninstall the app or clear its storage in Settings. There's no server-side data to delete.

Is Sift free?

Yes. Check the App Store for current details.
